Elegant in both appearance and function, the Contarini pen brings the atmosphere of historic Venice to the desk. Whether chosen for personal use, display, or gifting, it offers a graceful way to enjoy the art of handwriting.

Handmade Murano glass with silver leaf

The Contarini calligraphy pen is entirely handmade in Murano glass and crafted with silver leaf for a luminous decorative finish. This artisan detail gives the pen depth, character, and a strong connection to Venetian glassmaking traditions, making each piece feel special and visually distinctive.

Glass nib writing experience

This pen is fitted with a glass nib, making it a wonderful choice for decorative writing, fluid ink work, and elegant desk use. Glass nibs are valued for their smooth feel on the page, their ability to hold a generous amount of ink, and their ease of cleaning between colours. This makes the Contarini pen especially appealing for customers who enjoy expressive writing with a more artistic presentation.

Available in nine glass colours

The Contarini pen is available in nine Murano glass colours: Black, Blue, Red, Ivory, Amber, Turquoise, Amethyst, Green, and Aquamarine. This varied colour range makes it easy to choose a finish that suits your taste, complements your desk, or coordinates with other Bortoletti writing accessories.

Ideal for practising beautiful writing

The Contarini calligraphy pen is an ideal set for practising the art of beautiful writing. It suits anyone who enjoys working slowly and deliberately with traditional tools, whether for decorative words, personal notes, creative projects, or simply the pleasure of writing by hand with style and elegance.

Elegant Venetian desk appeal

Murano glass has a unique way of catching and reflecting the light, and the Contarini pen brings that visual charm to the writing desk. Its silver leaf detail and handcrafted form help filter the light of ancient Venice into your workspace, making it not only a practical pen but also a decorative piece with strong heritage character.

How do I swap a glass nib for a steel nib in the Bortoletti dip pens?

To change a nib in a Bortoletti dip pen, first pull the existing metal or glass nib straight out from the holder. If you are switching from a metal nib to a glass nib, you may also need to remove the small metal collar, or ferrule, from the tip of the holder using your fingernail. Once that is removed, slide the new nib into place and check that it is seated firmly and sitting straight so the ink flows properly.

There is also a helpful video from the Procincial Pen Co. showing how to change Bortoletti dip pen nibs here: Watch the video tutorial.
