Bortoletti Orseolo Murano glass calligraphy set for elegant handwriting

The Bortoletti Orseolo Murano glass calligraphy set is a beautifully handcrafted writing set created for those who appreciate Venetian style, traditional glass artistry, and expressive handwriting. Made in the Bortoletti laboratory by master Murano glassmakers, this elegant pen is formed in twisted two-colour Murano glass and fitted with a glass nib designed for smooth single-line calligraphy.

Combining decorative appeal with practical writing performance, the Orseolo set is ideal for calligraphy practice, creative ink work, and anyone who enjoys the beauty of handwritten words presented with style and originality.

Handcrafted twisted Murano glass in two colours

The Orseolo pen is handmade in twisted Murano glass using two colours, giving it a distinctive appearance with depth, movement, and a strong Venetian character. Each pen is individually made by skilled master glassmakers, so every piece carries its own artisan finish and subtle variation.

Glass nib for single-line calligraphy

This calligraphy pen is completed with a glass nib specially suited to single-line calligraphy. The nib is shaped using a bronze metal mould to create the characteristic twisted grooves that hold ink and allow it to flow gradually onto the paper. This creates a smooth writing experience with good ink retention and elegant line control.

Suitable for writing, drawing, and decorative work

The Orseolo pen is suitable for both writing and drawing, making it a versatile choice for calligraphers, illustrators, and creative stationery lovers. The twisted glass nib retains a generous amount of ink in its spiral channels, helping it glide across the page with a flow often compared to that of a fountain pen.

Compatible with all Bortoletti glass nibs

The pen nib can be replaced with all Bortoletti glass nibs, offering flexibility if you would like to change the look of your pen or keep a spare nib to hand. Because each replacement nib is handmade, every one has its own individual artisan character while maintaining compatibility with the Orseolo pen.

Suitable for all inks and left-handed users

The glass nib of the Orseolo pen is suitable for all types of ink and can be cleaned easily with water after use. It is also a practical option for left-handed users, making it an accessible and elegant writing tool for a wide range of customers.

Ideal for italic and expressive scripts

This style of pen is especially well suited to scripts such as Italic, single line Italic, and American Italic. It is a rewarding choice for anyone who enjoys graceful, flowing letterforms and wants to give their calligraphy a unique and distinctive touch.

Complete set with Hamburg ink

The set includes a 15 ml bottle of Hamburg calligraphy ink, giving you everything needed to begin writing straight away. It is presented in an elegant gift box finished with a gold-stamped logo, adding to its premium character and making it an excellent gift for writers, artists, and lovers of fine desk accessories.

A Murano glass writing tradition

The invention of the glass nib dates back to the 1800s on the famous island of Murano, where skilled master glassmakers created beautiful writing instruments long before the widespread use of fountain pens. These glass nibs became admired around the world for their beauty, ingenuity, and distinctive writing feel. The Orseolo set continues that heritage in a form that feels both traditional and timeless.

Available in eight colour options

The Bortoletti Orseolo Murano glass calligraphy set is available in Red, Black, Blue, Amethyst, Amber, Alexandrite, Green, Pink and Aquamarine. This colour range makes it easy to choose a pen that suits your personal taste, complements your desk, or makes a memorable gift.

Bortoletti Italian craftsmanship

Bortoletti is known for elegant writing instruments and desk accessories inspired by Venice, Murano glass artistry, and traditional decorative workmanship. The Orseolo set reflects that heritage through its handcrafted two-colour glass body, twisted glass nib, and beautifully presented writing set format. It is a pen that combines practical function with the artistic character of Venetian craftsmanship.

How do I swap a glass nib for a steel nib in the Bortoletti dip pens?

To change a nib in a Bortoletti dip pen, first pull the existing metal or glass nib straight out from the holder. If you are switching from a metal nib to a glass nib, you may also need to remove the small metal collar, or ferrule, from the tip of the holder using your fingernail. Once that is removed, slide the new nib into place and check that it is seated firmly and sitting straight so the ink flows properly.

There is also a helpful video from the Procincial Pen Co. showing how to change Bortoletti dip pen nibs here: Watch the video tutorial.
