Product Questions
Hi Trina,
Thank you for asking. Bortoletti recommends using 90% pure alcohol or denatured alcohol (Methylated spirits) for a stable, odourless flame that does not burn or discolour the wax.
Please note that Calligraphy Arts does not sell this as it requires specialist posting, but it is freely available at many hardware and cosmetic accessory stores.
I hope that helps,
Jane
Hi Trina.
The Bortoletti ball pens accept refills from a number of suppliers and manufacturers. For example:
CROSS Ball Pen Refill Standard Fine Black 8514
Schneider 785 Medium Black Ballpoint Pen Refill
Here's one supplier in the UK https://www.whsmith.co.uk/products/schneider-785-medium-black-ballpoint-pen-refill/4004675026750.html
or on Amazon: https://www.amazon.co.uk/CROSS-Refill-Standard-Black-8514/dp/B01BVZEZPI?ref_=ast_sto_dp&th=1&psc=1
I hope that helps you.
Kind regards,
Jane
A left-handed nib in calligraphy is a nib that is designed to be used by left-handed calligraphers. It is typically angled slightly to the right, so that the ink flows smoothly and does not smudge when the calligrapher writes from left to right. Left-handed nibs are available in a variety of materials, including steel, gold, and platinum. They can be purchased from a variety of online and brick-and-mortar retailers.
Here are some of the benefits of using a left-handed nib in calligraphy:
- Reduced smudging: When a left-handed calligrapher uses a regular nib, the ink can easily smudge on the paper as they write from left to right. This can be frustrating and can make it difficult to create clean, crisp lines. A left-handed nib is designed to reduce smudging, so that calligraphers can create beautiful, legible work.
- Improved comfort: A left-handed nib is designed to be held in a comfortable position for left-handed calligraphers. This can help to reduce fatigue and pain in the hand and wrist.
- Increased accuracy: A left-handed nib can help calligraphers to write more accurately. This is because the nib is angled to the right, so that it is easier to control the flow of ink.
If you are a left-handed calligrapher, I encourage you to try using a left-handed nib. You may be surprised at how much easier it makes it to create beautiful, legible work.
Thanks for asking.

Hello Jozsef.
Thank you for asking. They would normally come with any nibs as packed / supplied by Bortoletti. But I can ensure the set you receive will have those nibs as shown in the picture. Just remember to let me know when you place your order.
Kind regards,
Jane Lappage
Hello.
Yes, the pen nibs supplied in any of our pens are all interchangeable with any of the nibs we supply and most others available at craft stores.

Hello Ottie. Thank you for asking.
Yes you can. All you have to do is remove the steel ferrule that holds the normal nib in place and the glass nib will slide in perfectly.
Kind regards,
Jane Lappage

Hello Jean,
Don't worry, the Fun Calligraphy Flourishes class is recorded and available for everyone who registers and pays for class. The recording is available for at least two years - but I have never deleted any of my class's recordings yet. So, the video of the Flourishes class should be around for a very long time :)
I hope that helps your decision and I look forward to, hopefully, receiving your booking.
Kind regards,
Jane Lappage
Hi Peter,
Thank you for asking, but unfortunately we don't offer an engraving service just yet...
I have just invested in a wonderful engraving tool and will hopefully off this service very soon. Just give some time to practice.
Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Kind regards,
Jane
Hi Nicole,
The part you are needing is called a ferrule. They are a simple push fit into the main bronze section of the pen. I do have some available. They only cost £2.50 plus postage. Please let me know where you are located, and I can send you a proper quote for payment if you wish.
Kind regards,
Jane Lappage
Hi Rosamund,
The seal stamps (letters and symbols) are fully interchangeable. So, you can have as many seal stamps as you wish to use with just one handle.
They simply screw on and off, but are very secure.
I hope that helps.
Jane
Hi Pink,
Finetec was the original manufacturer of the Coliro Pearlcolors. The company has been taken over by their daughter who has asked for the brandname to be changed over. I am in the middle of doing this - but it's taking some time to do...
Kind regards,
Jane
Bortoletti was founded in 1980 by four brothers driven by the passion passed on by their father for bronze casting and sculpture.
It was born in Venice, and it was here that a story of love and passion began that has been handed down from father to son in respect for tradition and the need to preserve what is wonderful about culture.
Bortoletti Fonderia Artistica design and create exclusive handmade objects in the tradition of Venetian craftsmanship, from the pencils of their designers and their artistic creativity come the designs of wonderful products and it is always a lifeblood of the whole creative process.
The passion and care they devote to their products are a source of pride and satisfaction for everyone. All creations are unique pieces, handmade and produced elusively in Bortoletti's workshop. By integrating with modern habits, they restore to you the pleasure of giving that has belonged to us all for millennia. The design of Bortoletti's products is so pleasing to the eye because it speaks of the past in the language of the present.
If you have a piece of Bortoletti - you have a part of Venice in your hands.
