Hello! I’m Jane Lappage, a calligrapher, artist and teacher based in Leicestershire, in the heart of rural England.
I’ve been practising calligraphy since 2005, and I love helping people discover the calm, creativity and confidence that come from learning beautiful lettering.
Calligraphy Arts is a family-run business that I run with my husband, Nick. Together we create hand-lettered pieces for special occasions, develop workshop projects, and curate quality calligraphy supplies in our online shop.
My calligraphy journey
My calligraphy journey began with evening classes and a love for traditional letterforms. What started as small, handmade projects soon grew into commissions and teaching. Over the years I’ve created everything from delicate wedding stationery to meaningful keepsakes and bold, modern lettering designs.
I’m inspired by nature, meaningful words, and the little details that make a piece feel personal. If you’re looking for something unique — or you’d like to learn the skills yourself — you’re in the right place.
What I create
I create bespoke calligraphy and hand-lettered artwork for individuals, couples and organisations. This includes:
- Wedding stationery (invitations, place cards, table plans and finishing touches)
- Personalised gifts and keepsakes
- Greeting cards and seasonal lettering pieces
- Certificates, quotations and special messages

Calligraphy workshops & classes
Teaching is a huge part of what I do. I run friendly, supportive calligraphy workshops for all skill levels — from complete beginners to experienced calligraphers looking to improve technique or explore a new style.
Workshops are available online and in person (with many held across the UK Midlands). I also teach from our Calligraphy Arts HQ with one-to-one sessions and small group classes.
Popular topics include Modern Calligraphy, Italic, Gothic / Blackletter, Roundhand, Brush Lettering, plus specialist techniques like gold leafing, illuminated letters and creative wax seal finishes.

Do you teach complete beginners?
Yes — beginners are always welcome. I’ll guide you step-by-step, and you’ll leave with new skills and a clear way to practise at home.
Where are you based?
I’m based in Leicestershire, UK. Many in-person workshops take place across the Midlands, and online classes are open to students anywhere.
Can I commission a personalised piece?
